A documentary starring Aquinas alumna Katie Fahey and her efforts to end gerrymandering in Michigan was screened online, bringing a new dimension to community engagement.
The passage of Proposal 2 would create a commission of randomly-selected citizens that would reassign district boundaries every 10 years in accordance with population data from the U.S. Census.
Three proposals will appear on the Michigan ballot on Nov. 6. These proposals have the potential to directly impact anyone living in Michigan.
Gerrymandering is the intentional redrawing of voting districts to produce a particular election outcome. Those involved in anti-gerrymandering efforts at Aquinas hope belief in democracy’s integrity and effectiveness can be reinvigorated.
