The Aquinas Men’s Basketball program has a lot to be proud of, as former NAIA All-American, Arsenio Arrington has agreed to terms on a contract with the G League’s Grand Rapids Gold, affiliate of the Denver Nuggets. Arrington was able to suit up for a pair of home games at the Deltaplex Arena this past weekend on Friday (Jan. 7), and Saturday (Jan. 8).
After his collegiate playing career at Aquinas, Arrington took his basketball career overseas, playing professional basketball in several foreign countries. Those included Germany, Romania and Malta. His most recent endeavors landed him in El Salvador, playing for Santa Tecla. Needless to say, Arrington’s abilities have taken him across the globe.
“I’m super excited to start playing,” said Arrington in a recent interview with DJ Foster of AQ Athletics. “It’s been a goal of mine to make it to this level and now that it’s happening…I’m nothing but grateful for this opportunity. And to be playing here in Grand Rapids – a city I’m familiar with and have been around since 2016, it’s a dream come true.”
Arsenio then discussed how this opportunity came about.
“I was just getting back from playing in El Salvador and Aquinas has several ties with the Gold,” Arrington said. “With COVID injuries and call ups, they were looking for extra bodies to fill roster spots for practices. I began playing well and the coaching staff started to like me”.
A familiar face to many in the Aquinas community, Arrington exemplified what it takes to succeed both on-and-off the court in his time at Aquinas. In his final season, Arrington was ranked second in the WHAC in both scoring and blocks, and he claimed third in offensive rebounds. His stellar senior season notched him an All-WHAC First Team selection. In his two seasons as a Saint, Arrington finished with 822 points, an average of 13.3 points per game.
