Story by Sports Editor Mark Musgrave III
Coming out of Spring Break, the #7 Nationally Ranked Aquinas Men’s Lacrosse team is sitting with a .500 win percentage at a record of 3-3. All three losses came from ranked opponents. Going into Conference play, these men will face two more ranked opponents and two that have received votes, with two being home and two away. The end goal for this team is the NAIA National Tournament. It will take an impressive performance in match play to make it there. With this year’s Non-Conference schedule being full of ups and downs, I asked Senior Captain Kevin Lahaie to share his personal experience leading the team this season:
The 2023 men’s lacrosse season is my last season ever as a member of the Aquinas Lacrosse team, and so far it has been a season unlike any other. We have begun the season by going 3-3 throughout non conference play. During that time we have faced adversity, but have honestly learned more about each other than ever before. We are a team that is hungry to improve and play the best ball that we can to get back to the national tournament for a second consecutive year.
Just looking at our roster from the top down, we are full of leadership and talent. Our entire starting attack line is full of firepower in Mitch Haggart, Jon Jardis, and Zach Sweet. All being seniors they bring a mentorship that is valuable to the rest of the midfield lines that we roll out game after game. In the back end our defense is full of talent as well. Our goaltender Clayton Boerigter has been one of the best in the game his entire career. In addition to him we have two all conference poles from last year returning in Gavin Kleynenberg and Louis Nageotte.
I am both excited and anticipating a great conference performance from our guys and I look forward to our campus seeing what we are truly made of. As we continue to grow and gel, the roster potential we have is unmatched compared to most of our opponents. We begin conference play against Lourdes on the 25th at home and we hope to see our campus outside and in full force for our conference opener!
