Story by Editor in Chief Meridian Pearson

Mission Improvable held their first show of the spring semester in the Moose on Wednesday, March 29 at 10pm. It was a long-awaited performance, as changes to the team roster and scheduling conflicts repeatedly pushed back the show’s date. Since March is the month of St. Patrick’s Day, the show was aptly named L.U.C.K., or Losers Using College Knowledge.

The improv show had an impressive turnout, and many audience members stood in the back as all the seats in the house were filled! Co-captains Meridian Pearson and Jack DeLong took the lead, announcing each game and promoting their upcoming show on April 19th: a Jackbox party for Jack’s birthday!

This upcoming show will be another first for the team this semester. Instead of a typical stage show we’ve come to expect from the group, Mission Improvable will be playing games from the Jackbox Party Pack on the big screen. Rumor has it, there will be audience participation!

After losing five members from fall to spring and adding one more in February, Mission Improvable has spent a lot of time team building and preparing to take the stage with only 7 members. The team roster includes co-captains Pearson (senior) and DeLong (junior), as well as senior Grace VanHaitsma, sophomores Noah Reilly and Nate Talbot, and Freshmen Annah Stang and Tobe Porter. LUCK was DeLong’s first show as co-captain, and Porter’s first show with the team.

Mission Improvable’s goal has always been to put smiles on people’s faces and find the comedy in ordinary – and sometimes extraordinary – situations. Oddly enough, their first rule is, “Don’t be funny.” According to the team, you get more laughs from reacting in the moment than you do from trying to find the obvious joke. Sometimes real life is just funnier!

Nearing the end of the semester, the team hopes to put on two more shows: Jack’s birthday show, and their annual “After Dark” show during finals countdown week. Make sure to mark down Wednesday, April 19th and Monday, May 1st at 10pm on your calendars so you don’t miss the hilarity to come.
