Story by Alex Rodriguez, Sports Editor
A few weeks ago, Aquinas Hosted their annual Hall of Fame dinner. With the attendance of President Cordoba at the dinner there were over 50 guests. Nearly every sports team on campus was represented with an exception to dance, cheer, swim and dive, and possibly a few more. Our Saints on the baseball and softball teams were assigned about 8 tables, along with about 15 more tables that were assigned to other teams and/or individuals from Aquinas.
The introduction ceremony began at seven pm sharp, starting with a banquet. This served some various entrees and cake; along with an open bar before and after the ceremony, which lasted for roughly two hours. Following that excitement, there were some fun raffles going on such as the 50/50 raffle that carried on throughout the night and a reverse raffle that offered a grand prize of 2,000 dollars. This raffle was a huge deal for Aquinas as the money that was raised is going to fund the Sturrus Sports Building, our new Fitness Center Project which would include a remodel, much needed new equipment for our weight room, and even new athletic equipment for our athletes!
All of the Aquinas Sports teams had a member or more attend to volunteer, by greeting people at the entrance, help with registering people into the event, guiding others to their tables, or to talk about our goal for remodeling the weight room and why it is important to us as athletes to have a better spot to workout. This was mostly carried out by the swim and baseball teams, which helped lead others to their spots, and the women’s basketball team, who greeted people at the door.
At such an important event we were even honored to have President Cordoba attend the dinner, along with some exciting Hall of Famers such as Coach Bo!
Inductees were also presented either by a team or individual with plaques for all of their accomplishments to show the appreciation for them from Aquinas. A team needed to be at least ten years old to have any inductees, however, most teams on campus still showed up to represent our community of sports at Aquinas College. Until next year!
