The spring semester is finally in motion, and clubs are beginning to host activities. The presidents of three art clubs discuss their programs, and how students can participate throughout the school term.

In AQ Art and Craft Anime Club, Liz Forsyth emphasizes how this group is not only for art majors. “I focus on crafts that anyone can do, and we have anime in the name since I like watching these films while doing something I love,” she says.

The films are associated with Studio Ghibli, but the meaning behind these films can be appreciated by anyone. “A lot of people that come to these events are non-members as well,” she explains.

Collaborating last semester with the Environmental club, this was their most successful event. Students painted pots while getting a free plant. Even so, the crafts she provides are fun fidgets, origami, and clay activities.

Another club on campus is the Writers’ Guild. Summer Hickok describes the club’s goal. “The main intention of the Writers’ Guild was so writers could get together and write together. When I joined in 2021 there were only three members at that point,” she explains.

Since she became president, there are now 20 people that attend. Their most recent event was with AQ Diversity, where they had poetry readings that represented Martin Luther King day.

There are future events to look forward to in the spring. “We want to do a couple of opportunities where people can come and read their own work,” she says.

One more organization that stands out is the Theater Honors Society, Alpha Psi Omega. Katie Schneider-Thomas, provides her insight on this organization.

“You are more than welcome to come to our events. If you have an interest in something worth going to, come and join us,” she says. Since combining with Mission Improvable and ENCORE, the society has been able to organize their events in a more concise way.

Schneider-Thomas is looking forward to their next event, where the group is hosting a welcome back breakfast on January 31st, from 4-6pm in the Loutit room on the third floor of Wege.

Although there have been some trials since switching to the new MyAQ page, clubs encourage individuals to participate, even if people are not affiliated with the group.

They provide a way to engage with the Aquinas community, where people can express themselves in an inclusive way. Each club advertises through their instagram accounts and flyers across campus.
