Year after year, families, friends, coworkers, and more gather together to watch Sunday Night Football. Year after year, we in Michigan gather to watch and support our Detroit Lions which we all conveniently watch every year on thanksgiving. Year after year we have all watched the lions lose games and miss the postseason and/ or lose the wild card game. At least that was until this season, at which our Detroit Lions made it past the wild card game and all the way into a final four matchup.

While holding up an impressive season, the Lions led the NFC North with a 12-5 record. They went into the postseason facing the Rams at which they clutched up a close game beating Los Angeles Rams 24- 23. This brought them into the NFL Divisional Round at which they took down Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-23. Finally they faced off in the NFL Conference Championships where their exciting run was put to an end by the San Francisco 49ers.

This season has become the 18th postseason the Lions made it too, along with their first one in 8 years. It didn’t just stop there, after winning the wild card game against the Rams, it broke a 33 year run of not making it past the Wild Card. Unfortunately, the Lions have yet to make an appearance nor win a Super Bowl, but there is still a huge excitement for next year’s season.  With Dan Campbell taking over coaching 3 years ago and the team having a record of 3-13 into a team competing highly for a spot in the Super Bowl and a record of 14-6. Along with the few rookies that held major starting roles for the Lions this season.

Not only was the talent something extremely special for this season of the NFL, the community that these games brought was like no other. A mid sunday shopping trip, a snack run before the game, a walk through the halls the Detroit Lions is all that surrounds. Whether it’s in the form of a “Let’s go Lions” as leaving the store or hearing tv’s playing the game and groups of people celebrating the moments as walking through the halls. This year the Detroit Lions not only brought a good show on their game days, they brought together the community throughout the entire state of Michigan.
