The Christian Anderson Band performed on Friday, February 2nd from 8-10pm in the Wege Ballroom, in celebration of St. Thomas Aquinas week. This free event, sponsored by Campus Ministry and the Aquinas College Programming Board(AQPB), allowed students to listen to music in a new way. The band gave a unique twist on what musicians can accomplish as a whole.
Christian Anderson, the main singer, is originally from Flint, Michigan. He proves that his passions not only empower others by exemplifying his success as a musician, but his concert allowed Aquinas students to connect with each other as well.
Upon entering the ballroom, the ambiance had low lighting, yet there were large white lights on the stage. This created a relaxing yet fun atmosphere.
Regina Bonifazi introduced the band to the audience. “Best known for his catchy melodies and voice, this is an experience you will never forget,” she said.
The performance started off with Anderson playing the bass drums along with singing, while his two other group members played the trombone and drums. The band combined their instruments with an electronic bass, which amplified the listening experience.
Although their genre of music specifically falls into Chrstian music, anyone can appreciate the entertainment that his performance brought. He encouraged the audience to join him by clapping to the tempo, and Anderson even leapt off the stage and walked through the audience to give everyone a supportive high five.
“I had a lot of fun. I had never heard his music before but he was really good and I’ll definitely be listening to him in the future,” said Matthew Stace, an Aquinas student who attended the event that night. “He is very talented, he had a great attitude, and he was very friendly and engaged with the audience. My friends all seemed to really like him as well. Overall, I’m glad I went!”
Throughout the show, the band would take breaks in between different songs, and Anderson would give a small interlude on his music and life journey. He even gave thanks to the camera and soundboard crew, and everyone else who was helping him out that night.
After the performance, people were able to purchase some of his merchandise, while he also did a free signing for individuals that wanted his autograph and a photo. His next event will be held in Ypsilanti, Michigan on Saturday, March 16th.
