Story by Emily Boeve, Guest Writer

God speaks to people at the most random times and through the most random things. With that being said, I wanted to share how God spoke to me through a mundane day at work. I have the wonderful opportunity to work with disabled adults, and get to help them in their daily lives. Most of the time we help them with small tasks like eating or cleaning up after themselves, but we also get to play games and go with them on outings. I have learned so much from my time working with people with different abilities and couldn’t begin to describe how much they mean to me. This particular story comes from a pretty standard night at work, doing something quite mundane, and yet God used it as an opportunity to speak.

I was working with a particular resident who struggled to stand or walk on their own. At this point in the night I went to move them from the couch to another seat in the activity room, not very far away. I helped them to their feet as usual, and holding on to my arms, they made their way to their new seat. A little over halfway there, the resident decided that they were too tired to walk any further. Bending at the waist first, they collapsed forward into my arms. I was a bit caught off guard, but was in a good position to wrap my arms around them and keep them on their feet. After a minute I helped him back up to standing and they finished the journey to their new place to relax. Later in the night, God connected the dots and showed me what he was saying at this moment.

God is the one leading us from one point to another. Without him, we couldn’t get very far and could easily fall and hurt ourselves. By trusting God and leaning on him, we can get to our destination safely. I was particularly inspired that night by this resident’s complete faith. When they felt they could no longer keep going, they didn’t let go, instead they dove at me in complete faith that I could catch them. In the same way, we need to have absolute faith that God will catch us if we dive fully at him. Unlike me, God will not be caught off guard if we dive at him in a moment of weakness, He will be ready to wrap his arms around us and help us get back on our feet.
