Late into February the Aquinas Women’s Softball team began their season with a blowout. Starting their season with a mercy ruled game winning 12-0 against Judson, set the tone for how this team was going to play out this season. Continuing out this weekend at the St. Ambrose tournament they continued without a loss beating St. Ambrose 3-1, Judson for a second time 10-6, and Mount Mercy 14-6. Without a loss in the first weekend of games, the women’s team didn’t stop at first and continued to take these wins all the way home.
When returning back to Michigan, they continued to win, beating Olivet Nazarene, in two mercy rules games. Winning their first game 10-2 ending in the 6th inning, and later the same night winning 8-0 finishing that matchup in the 5th inning. This team, although they ran things at home, also took their game out of the park by traveling to Florida to compete in their next 14 games over Spring Break.
Starting into their trip to Florida, they dusted #10 Marian, 5-1 in their first game. They continued their winning streak against Bethel on the same day, beating the Pilots 7-1. Unfortunately their streak of wins came to an end, against Saint Francis, who claimed the first loss for the saints 8-0. However, the very next day this team bounced right back to claim two more wins against Mount Mercy, winning 4-0, and Webber International 4-3. In the matchup against Montreat, they took their second loss of the season 2-0, in a close game. Although the saints got put down, they didn’t stay down for long- coming back the next 2 games that day with huge wins. Firstly beating Hannibal- LaGrange 10-0 in a 5 inning blow out, but then clinching an 8th inning win 3-2 against Clarke. Along with a huge 7-1 win against Fitchburg State this put their record at 13-2.
Going into the weekend the team took a hard two losses against (RV) Missouri Baptist and Mount Mercy, but they rallied for their next 5 games winning 1 in a mercy rule and 2 in close extra inning matchups.
With next games starting conference play next, it will be exciting this season’s run. Holding a current 18-4 record, this team will definitely be a team that steps up to the plate and competes to continue out their great start of a season.
