Story by Alex Rodriguez, Sports Editor

Starting early in February, the Aquinas Men’s team had four games competing against IUPUC, which went their way for the majority of it. Winning the first match up 6-4, then in a closer game going into the second game, by taking it to 7 innings holding off a victory 11-9, and thirdly dusting them 7-1. This did unfortunately lead to the last game at which the Saints weren’t able to pull through in another 7th inning close match up.

Whilst in Indiana, they played against Union College at which they took 2 more losses 14-9 and 12-0. With the two losses held over them for 2 weeks, they came back to Indiana and took their first game back against Oakland City 3-0. Unfortunately for the next three matches Oakland City got the best of them, holding wins of 8-4, 12-2, and 7-4 against our saints.

Going into Spring Break, the Aquinas Baseball team took a trip to Florida at which in their time there they split their wins and losses 4 and 4. Within the first two games they held wins over IC-South Bend 7-3 and 4-2 taking each game to 7 innings. Unfortunately their next 4 games were losses against St. Thomas twice, Trinity Baptist, and Webber International. Ending their trip, they took two big wins against Dordt, beating them 13-1 and 9-3.

When returning back to Michigan, the Saints started up conference play. Competing against Madonna to start off they split their two games with a win to start 3-2, but then also a loss of 10-6. Then when facing off against UM- Dearborn, they took back to back wins each with a score of 11-6. Then, after 2 days of postponed matches against Lawerence Tech, they finally competed and started out with a 2-0 win. However, later that same night they took a hard 4-2 loss against LTU.

Whilst holding a 12-12 season record, there still holds a lot of hope for this season. Holding a 3-2 record in conference play, there is no doubt that the Aquinas Men’s Baseball team will be a force to reckon with this year within the WHAC. With only conference games lined up for these Saints, there won’t be much room for errors on the field, but with much confidence, we look forward to seeing these saints take the WHAC conference all the way home bringing an exciting season to watch.
