As the school year draws to a close, and the flowers begin to bloom, one can’t help but be grateful of the beautiful campus and college that we have here in Grand Rapids. While finals are approaching fast, there is a good way to relax if you want to clear your head from the stress and anxiety of the upcoming exams; you attend one of the on campus events.
Since the semester is ending soon there have been a ton of events, and still are enough for many different kinds of people to enjoy. On Wednesday, April 24, Sarah Jaquette Ray is coming for the Wege Speaker Series. She will discuss the environment and the changing climate. The Aquinas College Choir performed Leonard Bernstein’s Mass: A Theatre Piece for Singers, Players, and Dancers on Saturday, April 27. The music department will perform on Friday, May 3 with a variety of different bands and groups. Attending a liberal arts school gives us a chance to become more well rounded and knowledgeable about different things. If you cannot make it to one of these events, you can attend a sporting event before the seasons finish up.
By attending different events, we can grow together as a college community. Being a smaller school, we have the special privilege of being able to meet new people on campus and continue to see them throughout the year. There’s a small town charm in the fact that for many of the students all eat at the same place and see each other almost everyday. Many students are athletes and all of them know the feeling when you are playing a game with a big crowd cheering you on. Imagine if all sports games or matches were like this; different athletes supporting one another.
Before the new semester starts again in the fall, think about how you can be even more active in the Aquinas community. We have a plethora of RSOs from Sustainability to Campus Ministry and everything in between. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved, and if you can’t find something that suits your interests, you can always make your own student organization. Aquinas College is a beautiful campus with many opportunities and you can be a part of it.
