Aquinas Men’s Rugby closes out their spring season in a solid fashion. This season they ended with a record holding 7-5 facing off against tough teams leading to fun successes and close games throughout this season.

In their first game of the season they played up against Virginia Tech, they beat them, 24-12 doubling their score and starting out their Spring season with a win, they had a slip up game in the Irish 7s Invitational losing to Kutztown University 31-12, but they bounced back for the rest of the tournament when playing against University of Michigan succeeding in a 28-10 victory. Finally to finish out their tournament play they played up against Iowa Central in the match for 5th place winning a tight match 26-21.

This first tournament showed that our Men’s Rugby team was going to be competing hard against tough teams to come out on top this season.

In the next tournament at the Big Rivers Conference 7s Tournament they started with their game 1 beating Thomas More 26- 0. This game set a strong tone for this tournament, but they took a tough two losses in their next games when playing up against Iowa Central losing 12-10 and Principia 10-5.

Their second tournament, though not their best performance, still showed their grit and toughness when coming to the year as a whole. Facing some tough teams, they kept their games close and still pulled off a solid win.

In the Collegiate 7s Championship the Aquinas College Men’s Rugby team had a great show out. Facing Belmont Abbey, they faced a rough 14-5 loss, but that game didn’t set their tone. They continued to play Iona in their Premier Bowl First Round game, beating them 32-7. This became a steamroll of victories when they next played Rio Grande, winning a strong game of 14-7 in their second round premier bowl game. When they made it into the Semi Finals, they took down Clemson, holding a shutout game and a winning score of 19-0. Their tournament concluded with a loss in the final round against Notre Dame losing only by 2 points with a 12-10 score.

The season concluded on a solid second place in a big tournament and as the next season for fall comes around it will be an extremely exciting team to go out and want to watch take down opponents.
