Aquinas College Women’s Lacrosse Team had started out their season facing off against Northern Michigan, a team that was not in their conference! Their first game ended up to be a 24-5 while the girls still fought a hard game Northern Michigan saving over 15 shots on goal and putting up 10 on their team. They then came back to face Madonna, a WHAC school, and took a big win 14- 6. When celebrating the big win, this women’s team came back and fought a hard battle against Albion, another non conference team and lost a close 14-13 game against them. Unfortunately the team went on a 6 game losing streak, against 5 non conference teams and 1 conference team, Marian University, ranked 9th in the nation.
They went up against Rochester in their 3rd conference game of the season and pulled off a win beating Rochester’s Lax Team 19-1 holding a conference record of 2-1.
This ended up being the last win for this team as they played (RV) Concordia, Bethel, (#7) Indiana Tech, (#3) Lawrence Tech, and Siena Heights. These games led to the closing out of the The Aquinas Women’s Lacrosse season, but there were still some highlights to celebrate.
Both Kennadie Minerich and Alexis Villarini were awarded Second Team All American, marking their 3rd consecutive time being named All American.
Along with the celebration of 7 seniors on this team, who have all participated and contributed their best efforts and dedication to the team within their seasons here. There also will be a strong round of juniors and underclassmen that are coming up to lead to a strong season coming around in the coming year.
Through the experience of playing on the field, and with plenty of new players contributing, this team has a lot of potential to become a strong competitive team within the next season leading to a possible season with a lot of success.
The coaching staff also deserves a nod for their strategic planning and development of the players. The growth seen in game performances, even amid losses, suggests effective coaching strategies and adaptability in handling various play styles and challenges posed by diverse opponents.
