Friday, September 20, 2024. Homecoming week is finally here and it is looking to be one of the most fun events we have seen this year on campus. The week is filled with exciting events to help build the community and to strengthen the positive energy around campus, by connecting to all versions of Aquinas College. Emma Daling, a student assistant for SAO, said, “Homecoming is spearheaded by Aquinas College Alumni Association as they encourage Saints to come home to see campus at the start of the year.” Ultimately, community is the objective. The community it has built previously has been so apparent that we have continued this traditionally since 1956 when we held a ‘Gala Weekend’. It wasn’t until 1980 when Aquinas had changed its name to Homecoming weekend.
Emma continued saying, “These events draw lots of students, families, alumni, and recognize the previous classes who graduated from Aquinas.”
Homecoming, the reminder for all alumni that Aquinas is forever a home to all students who graduated from Aquinas. This week tends to hold a lot of events to make them feel at home and also to have a lot of fun. It connects all members of the Aquinas College Community to be able to get together and enjoy a fun and exciting week.
Emma had to say, “Homecoming is great for current students to have a chance to show their school spirit, cheer on their peers during games and performances, and enjoy the incredible community that has been built at Aquinas.”
This week is designed for everyone. There are many events on campus during this time with events through the week, with most held on the weekends. Activities through fun different dress days throughout the week, or our new ‘Game of the Week’, which has been set for 21 of September as our (RV) Aquinas Men’s Soccer team will take on (RV) Madonna.
Whether you are new on campus or have been graduated for years, homecoming is an event that is meant to bring us all together. Emma finishes by saying, “With ranges of activities between Multicultural Mixer, the Alumni performances in Cheer, Dance, and Band, a food truck, a band coming in, and for those over 21, a beer tent. There is something for everyone at Aquinas Homecoming!”
