Part of being a Residence Assistance (RA) requires planning a certain number of events to promote intrapersonal connections amongst students. These events are up to the RA’s to plan and propose for approval. Any required supplies are then purchased or procured by Residence Life prior to the event.
Last Friday, Sept. 27, a “Mugshot” event happened in the Regina Hall lobby hosted by RA Zoebelle Bean. The activity was tote bag decorating, entailing multiple different sizes, shapes and colors of tote bag and various markers and paints to do so. As per the flier, students were instructed to bring their own mug to both, fill with tea or cocoa and take a picture with their cup (a mugshot if you will) and their completed bag.

As expected the turnout was small, making Saint reporters wonder: what gets students to participate?
The resounding answer seems to be fun. This event seemed to cater to mostly first year females (although the resident demographics also skew that data) who all reported wanting to attend based on their expectation of enjoying themselves.
I like to paint and thought it’d be fun,” said first year Gladys Rosas.
“I feel like there aren’t a lot of campus events, and it sounded like fun,” said first year Alícia Escote.
“It just looked super fun and cute,” said Cece Faber

Interestingly enough, another Residence Life event was hosted by another Regina Hall RA on Monday Sept. 30 by Sergio Alejos. His event took place in the Regina Bowl and was a series of basketball and volleyball games. Surprisingly, “fun” did not come up as a reason for attending.
Answers seemed to really only include two themes: spending time with friends/being more social, and knowing there was going to be free snacks.
“I love hanging with my besties,” first year Madeline Meeter said.
“I heard there there were snacks,” first year Jack Phillips said.
No matter what, there is always something for everyone on campus. If there is an event that you would really like to see happen, go talk to your RA! There are certainly no promises about them planning any kind of special event, but they are very likely to want to hear your idea.
