After the campus-wide wifi outage on Tuesday, Sept. 29, the quality of the wifi at Aquinas has been brought to the attention of everyone on campus. Students have been very opinionated on this topic, so much so that they have criticized it in and outside the classroom.
Many students are worried about whether or not their assignments will actually be submitted including freshman Alex Barr who said “the wifi at Aquinas can be very inconsistent and unreliable and that it sucks because what if I need to do my homework but I can’t because nothing is working. What then?”
Teachers are even having issues in class. In Professor Marshall’s class, many students had to retake their exam simply because their answers “never saved.” Francesca Varricchio, a student in Marshall’s class reported that it was “terrible because we had to take an extra two hours out of our free time to retake the exam plus I found it difficult to remember every answer I put down in the first place because it was such a long exam.”

On Sept. 29 there was a campus wide wifi outage, which added to the pre-expiating complaints from students and facility alike. The wifi here on campus has been a popular subject for students. Most find it annoying and not something they would like to worry about on top of having to worry about getting their assignments in on time. One student, Alexander Rodriguez, said “my phone lost connection and hung up on my phone call six times just on my walk from the chapel to the library.” This is a regular occurrence for students to be having a bad connection especially in places like the library, the Moose and Albertus.
For some people, like Kerrigan Smedley, the wifi is not actually that bad. She said “under the right circumstances it can be good, especially if there are only a few people using it.” Although many students would take the side of Michaela Faith, who stated that “it’s incredibly inconvenient how bad the wifi is here. Even the service is horrible so it’s not like I could use my phone instead if the wifi is bad at the moment.”

Overall the student body seems to project one idea over the topic of wifi at aquinas: it needs to be better. Students and faculty rely on the wifi too much for there to be constant breaks in connection. For now, everyone across campus will have to deal with the unfortunate side effects of the wifi at Aquinas.
