GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Students, families, and even the college mascot gathered at Aquinas College’s Donnelly parking lot on Friday night, Oct. 25, for the Student Senate’s Trunk or Treat event.
A first time event on campus, Trunk or Treating proved a fun and accessible way for students to embrace the twist of a traditional Halloween activity, the event ran from 6-8 p.m., drawing in a crowd that was “more than expected,” according to Student Senate representative and junior Grant Bricking.
“It’s so close to Halloween, so it was nice to do something on theme for Fall Fest,” said Bricking. “The Student Senate wanted something for the students to be able to dress up for.” And they did, with multiple students arriving dressed in their Halloween costumes.
In the parking lot, seven creatively decorated car trunks welcomed these costumed trick-or-treaters, with trunks themes ranging from mad scientist’s lab, passing out glowing chalk, to a knight’s dungeon and even a safari car with an open fire. Some local teenagers and families joined Aquinas students in the festivities to grab some treats.

Students were not the only ones dressed up for the occasion; the college mascot Nelson made a lively appearance, joining trunk and treaters in the activities. Participants could play yard games and roast s’mores whilst going around the cars to get some candy.

The event took place as part of campus’ finale to a busy week of fall themed activities with Fall Fest coming to an end.
The evening event also coincided with other Halloween activities and sport games including a women’s basketball game, a soccer game and Haunted Holmdene, offering plenty of Halloween-themed options for everyone on campus.
