After Mass on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 8:15 p.m., Campus Ministry hosted an after-mass social in the Moose. People gathered to interview the Friars and cheer them on as they competed in an event titled “The Friar’s Show.”
The event began with sorting the players into two teams. Campus Ministry Director Mike Ingram and Father Jordan were paired up to form the Pink Team. Father Bob and Brother Andrés were paired up on the Orange Team.
The series of games began with a game of Spoons and Balls. The goal of this game was to use a spoon held in the mouth to move a pile of balls one by one from one bowl to the other and whoever had the most balls moved at the end won. Fr. Bob and Ingram both stepped up to the plate determined to be victorious. After a couple minutes of intense cheering and movement, Fr. Bob came out on top, just barely surpassing the Pink Team’s 10 balls to their own 11 balls gaining two points for the Orange Team.
With the Pink Team itching for an opportunity to redeem themselves, they began the next game of Tissues. This game consisted of all four players receiving their own tissue box and were tasked with ripping it open and taking each tissue out one by one with one hand. As soon as the timer began, Fr. Jordan immediately ripped open his box and took a sweeping lead against his competition. With tissues flying everywhere and the crowd cheering, Fr. Bob once again proved the superiority of the Orange Team by finishing with an empty box just seconds before Fr. Jordan and snatched another two points for the Orange Team.
The final game was a version of newly-weds question and answer. Fr. Bob and Br. Andrés were tasked with answering the questions for themselves, but with the twist of having to guess their partners answers as well. This was the same challenge given to the Pink Team. Correct or matching answers rewarded the team with one point while a ‘funny’ answer rewarded the team with half of a point. The first question asked by host Emily Bissett, Campus Ministry Social Media Coordinator, was “What was your teammate’s first paid job?” Ingram and Fr. Jordan proved their friendship by both answering “lawn mower” for Fr. Jordan’s first job earning the Pink Team 1.5 points. The second question pushed the limits of friendship. Bisset asked the competitors to tell us what continent they would like to visit. Fr. Jordan and Ingram again showed their unbreakable bond and correctly answered “Europe” for Fr. Jordan and so merited the additional 1.5 points for the Pink Team. The proceeding two questions brought the game to a very close call, but the harmony between the Pink Team was apparent, with the two of them just barely achieving victory with a score of 7.5 points to the Orange Team’s 7 points.

With the competitive spirit of the teams coming to a close, all four participants sat down for a Q&A from the crowd. During this Q&A, the crowd learned much more about our Friars. Fr. Jordan confessed his love for the movie “Mean Girls” and rated it as 8.5/10. Fr. Jordan also admitted to his desire to be a sweet potato when asked what potato he would choose to be and proudly expressed as well that he was indeed a “big shower singer.”
Fr. Bob expressed his dream to visit Middle Earth from the Lord of the Rings universe when he was asked if there was any place that he would like to go that he’s never been to before, as well as confessing his favorite muppet to be Kermit the Frog. Br. Andrés testified to his passion for electric guitar and video games such as Elden Ring.
Ingram and the Friars closed out the night with questions and answers pertaining to discernment, Church law, and spiritual devotion and practice.
After a time of fun with the Aquinas Friars, everyone attending dispersed into their own conversations. With this event, Campus Ministry proved their ability to put on fun and exciting after-mass socials and succeeded in providing a space for faith and fellowship for the students of Aquinas College.
