Can you guess one of the most underrated items at Wege? It is something you might pass by every day without even noticing: soup.
“Oh yes. The Wege soups are, in my opinion, underrated,” sophomore Maria Hillary said. “I kind of forget it’s there half of the time, but when I do have it, it’s super delicious.”
The soups at Wege are tucked away around the corner from the salad station. This hidden spot often causes students to overlook it, and as a result, many soups don’t receive the praise they truly deserve.
Wege rotates between soup flavors, with a different flavor on the menu each day. The flavors usually reflect the season, with more hearty soups served in the fall and winter and lighter soups served in the spring and summer “I like a lot of the soups during the winter months, especially the chicken noodle,” freshman Dominick Marinelli said.
A particular student at Aquinas, who truly appreciates the soups, gives honest feedback on each soup they try on an Instagram account @wege_soup_reviews. The soup lover goes by the alias, “The Wege Soup Connoisseur.”

“I decided that I was the best person for this mission since I am very well-versed in the soup world,” The Wege Soup Connoisseur said. “I have been eating soups since I was very young, and my personal favorite is a good old-fashioned chicken noodle soup.”
The mysterious soup reviewer creates an Instagram post for each soup he tries. For each meal, he writes a caption with a rating out of ten along with a description of the soup. One is “sussing” and ten is “bussing.”
There are many factors The Wege Soup Connoisseur takes into account, including how well the soup is seasoned, how well the vegetables are cooked and how well-proportioned the meat and noodles are.
Sometimes, there are soups that look worse than they taste. “The most surprising soup that I have tasted was the creamy asparagus and tomato soup,” The Wege Soup Connoisseur said. “I was not expecting that to be so high on the sussing to bussing scale.”
Every soup the staff makes at Wege is different, but The Wege Soup Connoisseur believes they know a good soup when they taste it. “The best soup I’ve tried so far has to be the potato bacon soup. It was ten out of ten bussing,” The Wege Soup Connoisseur said.
They hope that their feedback can encourage other students to try the soups at Wege. “Another important aspect of this project for me is that the Aquinas Dining account is able to receive concise, honest feedback directly from a soup-passionate student,” The Wege Soup Connoisseur said. “I like to think it brightens their day when they see a ‘ten out of ten gas’ rating on a soup they worked really hard on.”
The Wege Soup Connoisseur appreciates their followers and the attention their account receives. “My message for the curious fans is that I would like to remain anonymous for my own safety from the paparazzi,” The Wege Soup Connoisseur said. “I appreciate their support, and I wish them a lovely life full of delicious soups.”
