Every year, the best of the best in the National Football League come together to play on the biggest stage. This year’s Super Bowl Sunday features a rematch of Super Bowl LVII, with the Philadelphia Eagles facing the Kansas City Chiefs.

Hosted in New Orleans at the Caesars Superdome, viewers can expect an intense matchup between the two teams, with all eyes on the two quarterbacks; Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs and Jalen Hurts of the Eagles. Super Bowl LVII in 2019 featured an identical lineup of teams, with the Chiefs taking the Vince Lombardi trophy home to Missouri after winning 38-35.

This year’s Super Bowl marks the Chief’s third straight appearance, and possibly third consecutive win. When asked in a press conference about balancing the excitement and camaraderie of the Super Bowl and how he manages to keep the team productive Head Coach Andy Reid said “You understand that it’s about the game. It’s not about all of this [media and press conferences]. The most important thing for the football players is that you function well in the biggest game of the year.”

On the other hand, the Eagles are looking for a chance to bring the trophy home to Philadelphia for the first time since their victory over the New England Patriots in 2018. Appearing in only four Super Bowls in history, compared to the Chiefs six appearances. When asked about what the team has had to overcome this season in a press conference, Head Coach Nick Sirianni said “embracing adversity is huge, for life and for football.”

This year’s game is expected to attain 117.3 million viewers; a three percent decrease in viewership from last year’s Super Bowl, while still holding a four percent increase in viewership from the 2023 game.

In addition to the excitement of the two teams going head to head, there is also a big anticipation for this year’s halftime performance. Kendrick Lamar, famous for the hit of 2024 “Not Like Us” is expected to take the stage with songs from his discography, while still keeping an emphasis on storytelling. Lamar is not the only musical artist slated to make waves at this year’s game. Jon Batiste will perform the National Anthem and Lauren Daigle alongside Trombone Shorty will be performing “America the Beautiful.”

Super Bowl LIX featuring the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs is expected to accrue many viewers. With high projected viewership and two teams with gritty season records, this year’s Super Bowl held in Caesar’s Superdome in New Orleans is anyone’s game.
