With the Student Senate opting to hold their biweekly meeting in the recently reopened Nellie’s Corner, the meeting was called to order a few minutes after twelve on February the 20th. Of immediate concern was the issue of groundskeeping. The Aquinas grounds team continues to struggle with hiring snow shovelers, although interest has risen as of late. The grounds team advertised their summer jobs, which will be in the fields of groundskeeping, custodial work, and logistics. New hires would have their first weeks begin on either the 12th or 18th of May.

The Senate’s special order of business revolved around the Counseling, Health, and Wellness Center. After a near year-long search, the CHWC has hired a counseling director. Regardless, the CHWC still needs a minimum of two counselors. The new staff members of the CHWC will be introducing themselves to the Student Senate at the next meeting, as the Student Senate continues to monitor the ongoing developments.

The next order of business included a variety of updates on Nellie’s Corner. A couch, new chairs, and beanbags have been ordered for the space, and should be arriving at Nellie’s around spring break. A minor action was moving the location of the switch between the TVs. The Senate is finalizing policy to ensure all games are properly upkept at both the beginning and end of the day. Overall, the Senate has reported that Nellie’s Corner has been a success so far.

This meeting’s executive and advising reports were brief. Senate Chair Fiona Walsh informed the body that headshots would be taken at the next meeting. Academic Affairs Director Grant Bricking updated the room that he is continuing to work on the Senate special election, which is open through February 27.

One update was given to the body, as Fiona Walsh discussed the Senate’s Luck of the Irish Casino Night, which will be hosted on March 21 in the Donnelly Center from 6-8. More information will become readily available to the public as the event nears. With this final update covered, the brief Senate meeting ended at 12:40.
