Campus Ministry was back for another round of euchre, the popular Midwest card game, on Thursday, Mar. 20. Coupled with walking tacos, puppy-chow and assorted pop drinks, the game was played across multiple tables in the Wege ballroom.

Roughly fifteen people came to play in groups of four, including Father Jordan Deguire, O.P.. Three different games happened with soft, indie music playing in the background. People subbed in as people came and went from their classes.

Though euchre is well known throughout the Midwest, some people were inexperienced in it and got the chance to learn. Other, more experienced players found an opportunity to teach these players and unite them in community.

“I found teaching and playing euchre to be a lot of fun,” freshman Cece Faber said. She taught freshman Alysa Dumont how to play euchre, and wrote out a list of rules and rankings for the cards for the two of them to follow. After teaching Dumont, Faber ended up winning a round of euchre with partner freshman Gionna Bean against an opposing team.

After the euchre fellowship was over, the Men’s and Women’s Bible Study Groups hosted a combined trivia experience, with a variety of Catholic and pop-culture questions for the participants to compete in. The leaders of the two study groups, junior Ben Zeppa and senior Faith Addington, led the competition. Zeppa read the questions aloud, while Addington double-checked the answers from the groups and awarded points.

“It was a lot of fun,” junior Lauren Vanderwulp said. “It made me realize how much I love the Catholic faith.”

Everyone got a chance to choose their own group of four or five people, a mix of men and women, and compete to win first place and the chance to earn candy and snacks. There were a total of six groups, with names such as, “Mike’s Minions,” “Petty Theology” and “The Holy She.”

“It was fun to help the team get two answers,” freshman Zach Miller said. “I just sat here and John [Petty, of ‘Petty Theology’] mostly carried the team, but I got the math one and Interstellar for one of the music questions.”

In the end, “Petty Theology” won trivia. Team members Mitchell Chrapek, John Petty, Zach Miller and Aiden Butler earned a bag of candy and several mini tubs of edible cookie dough from the Moose.
