Professor Daniel Brooks of Aquinas College is a tenured professor who has been in his position for over 3 decades. This year Brooks, and his wife Professor Rebecca Coogan, are retiring and stepping down from their positions. They are excited for their next journey but are hesitant to make any plans yet.

“Professor Brooks is one of the most respected faculty at AQ,” Professor of political science Roger Durham said. “He is a fantastic instructor, teaching a wide-variety of courses in the English Department and in General Education. His calm, steady, and scholarly contributions will be sorely missed at the college.”

As to what will become of the faculty advisor position at The Saint Newspaper, Professor Yashowanto Ghosh (Jasho) will take over Brook’s position.

“I had zero training or experience in journalism when I first came to Aquinas,” Gosh said. “I learned the craft by doing our journalism minor, which was a program with just one faculty member, Dr. Brooks. I learned everything I know from him”

When asked about his perspective for the next year, Gosh went on to say, “I am both thrilled and terrified by the opportunity to serve in a position whose very definition, for my entire time at Aquinas, has been Dr. Brooks.”

When reflecting on his work at Aquinas College and The Saint, Brooks said, “advising the student newspaper for the last 35 years has been one of the most satisfying experiences of my professional career. I take great pride in helping students discover that responsible, objective reporting is essential for any community and particularly in a democratic society. The vast number of dedicated student journalists I have worked with is too many to count, but it has been my great pleasure to be with them during this long haul. I will look forward to following the developments with The Saint in my retirement.”
