Aquinas Campus Safety released its annual Security and Fire Safety Report for 2025 while Physical plant repaired the on campus roads and parking lots during fall break.
Every year Aquinas College is required to release a safety report in accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act or the Clery Act for short. This act passed in response to Jeanne Clery’s tragic death in 1986 at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania and aims to protect and inform new students from unknown dangers and violent crimes that happen on college campuses.
The report contains on campus crime statistics, emergency responses and procedures, reporting policies and crime prevention and awareness programs. The report also provides information for on campus and local support and services.
“It is nice that it is available,” said Maelie Hope, junior, “I remember always worrying about whether I locked my car or not because of the break-ins and people always getting things stolen from their cars.”
The 2025 Clery Report can be accessed on the Aquinas College website on the Campus Safety page.
During fall break Aquinas’ Physical Plant was busy repairing the on campus roads and parking lots. The plan was broken up into three phases starting on Oct. 7 with both Sturrus lots, Wege lot, and lower St. Joe’s lot. During break Physical Plant finished work on the Performing Arts lot, apartment lots and the library lot finishing the project Oct. 14.
“This is a good start to fixing the roads,” said Blake Szymanski, junior. “I appreciate them doing this over break instead of doing it during mid-term week. This could have been a big distraction for students.”
The Physical Plant also did extensive repairs to the Bukowski Chapel lot. A new curb and much of the parking lot was repaved. The Bukowski Chapel served as Holmdene Manor’s horse stable until being converted into a chapel for students. Since 2017 after Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Chapel was constructed the Dominican Sisters have used Bukowski Chapel as a center for spiritual guidance and workshops open to the public.
