On Tuesday Oct. 7, 2025, Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Chapel celebrated its Anniversary of Dedication.
The Dedication Mass began at 4:30 p.m., the usual Tuesday Mass time. The Mass was celebrated by Fr. Jordan DeGuire, O.P., with Fr. Robert Keller, O.P., concelebrating. Marking the Mass’ special importance as a Mass of Dedication, incense was used during the Liturgy to bless the altar, priest and laity. Additionally, golden vestments were worn for the occasion.
“The dedication of the OLSW Chapel should remind us that it isn’t merely a building, but truly Golgotha,” J.T. Doudna, an altar server at the Mass, said. “Christ meets us here in a unique way to gift us salvation.”
Golgatha, meaning “place of the skull,” is the hill where Jesus was crucified. Doudna’s words echo the sacramental reality of the unbloody sacrifice that takes place at every Mass in every Roman Catholic Church throughout the world, in accordance with the Eucharistic theology of the Council of Trent and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

In his homily, DeGuire told a short story regarding Thomas Merton, a Trappist monk who spoke of his early life experience regarding the Catholic Church in his town. Merton, though not a Catholic at the time, noticed that the Church was geographically centered in his town, and that there was something special about it. DeGuire noted the importance of the Chapel in the life of the Aquinas student, stating that everything that takes place on the Aquinas College campus is rooted in the Gospel mission that Aquinas is founded upon.
Following the Dedication Mass, attendants were offered cookie cake and conversation in the narthex of the Chapel. Fittingly, the Chapel, mirroring DeGuire’s homily, is located at the geographical center of the Campus. Through celebrating the Dedication of the Chapel, Aquinas College is reminded of its Dominican heritage and foundational Pillar of Prayer.
”We are truly blessed to have this beautiful chapel on our campus.” Michael Ingram, Director of Campus Ministry said. “For nearly a decade now it has served as a sacred place where our community can come together, where students can hangout, and where individuals can find peace, comfort, and a quiet place to reflect.”
Our Lady Seat of Wisdom continues to offer daily Mass and Confession on weekdays and Sundays for the Academic Year, see the Campus Ministry Page for more details.
