On Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, the Men’s and Women’s Varsity Saints Bowling teams traveled to Detroit for their first Tier One Tournament of the season.

Over the weekend, freshman Tayler Mohney placed fourth overall in the women’s event of Midwest Collegiate Classic. “When I made the all-tournament team, I was really proud of myself, but I think I was more proud that I had contributed to putting my team into a really good position going into day 2,” Mohney said.

This allowed the Saints to start the season on a high note with confidence for the new year ahead. There was excitement not only from the varsity team, but from the junior varsity as well. In her first Tier One tournament, Mohney made the All-Conference Team, showing how far the bowling program at Aquinas has come.

“The team felt confident going into the Tier 1,”Carly Pavka, Aquinas Women’s Varsity bowler said. “We know our abilities and we have great chemistry. We put all of our trust into our coaches and I believe that plays a huge part in our success,”

The Saints went into this tournament with their heads held high. They were confident in themselves, their teammates and their coaches.

“The team felt great. We had a lot of team energy and a lot of that came from the conversations and bus rides,” Nicholas Schaberg, Aquinas Men’s Varsity bowler said. The Saints went into the tournament with positive attitudes and high energy, both ready to take on the long weekend ahead of them.

“We weren’t too disappointed in the result of the tournament, but we all know it could have been better,” Schaberg said. The men ended up placing 19th overall in the tournament.

“I think that our team definitely felt really good after the initial disappointment of losing in matchplay,” Pavka said. “We knew there was no way we could be upset about the weekend since we executed our shots and put up some big games. It was very emotional being able to show everyone what our AQ women’s bowling team is all about this year.”

“I think our team felt really accomplished to finish the way that we did, and it just showed us what we’ll be able to do in the future,” Mohney said.

The women ended up placing second in the tournament. Both teams felt the initial disappointment of not winning, but continued to fight. These teams came out showing what they could do. They both came out with a greater strength, determination and hope for the new season.

The Saints have another tournament on Nov. 1, in Clinton Township, Mich. Both varsity teams, as well as both junior varsity teams, will be ready to roll and make another statement.
