On Halloween, creative dining services put on a halloween themed event called “Hallo-Wege.” The event took place in Wege dining hall from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. with many students participating.

The event was full of festive activities such as a photo booth, Halloween themed treats and two guessing games: guessing how many candy corns are in a jar and how much a pumpkin weighs.

The winning prize for the guessing games was a Halloween themed prize bucket. The bucket held rewards such as a Visa gift card, campus dining dollars, a disposable camera and candy.

The photo booth consisted of a large, black curtain which created a backdrop for many decorations such as ghosts, pumpkins and even a skeleton. Students had the ability to use some props that were available to them which included: differing speech bubbles with phrases like “Boo” and “Spooky,” and a black weaved crown with little bats on it.

Keira Troost, junior at Aquinas, said she came to the event because she heard about it and was interested in the photo booth since she wanted to take photos with her friends. When asked about what her favorite thing about the event was she said “I love the ducks, man. There are so many individual little ducks.”

The ducks were the miniature ducks that creative dining was giving away at the guessing game table. Each duck had its own costume and design, and were something that Alyssa Hoff, retail manager for creative dining services, has been planning on bringing back. Last year they had a similar mini give away for an event. “We’ve been buying little free, swaggy items like themed little rubber ducks…They’re very adorable.”

Charlie Hoven, creative director of Aquinas dining services, has been trying to make this event bigger every year. Hoven mentioned that it only took about four or five of the workers to come together and brainstorm some ideas before coming up with the very large photo booth and games.

When asked what was his favorite part of this event he said that being the one to take pictures for the photo booth was the best part.

“It’s just seeing the reaction [of students],” Hoven said. “And it’s also fun doing something for the students, because that’s why we’re here: to break the monotony of studying and to have a good time in college. Plus, then we can dress up, too.”

Creative dining services regularly puts on events in Wege and with the theme of growing certain events as the years go on, there is no doubt that next year’s event will be even bigger and better than years prior.
