The Aquinas Men’s and Women’s Bowling teams are continuing to show promise and dominance in the WHAC conference. On Nov. 1, both teams participated in the WHAC Great Lakes Open tournament held in Clinton Township, Mich.
After starting the season at a tournament hosted by Siena Heights University and taking fourth place out of twelve teams for men’s and seventh place out of twelve teams for women’s, the team came back to dominate the WHAC at their latest tournament.
The men’s team took first place out of eleven teams on both days of the tournament and the women’s team took fourth place. Both as a team and as individuals, the athletes on the team found themselves succeeding. Both senior Brooke Binder, and senior David Schaberg took first place with the top score in the women’s and men’s division. “I think the team felt pretty confident since we qualified third at our last Tier 1 tournament,” said Binder. “I didn’t know that I had the top scores until after the tournament was done. It feels great being a top performer – being recognized for how good I bowled.”
Both Schaberg and Binder set the tone with their top scores. Schaberg had a 669 series (277-202-190) and Binder had a 623 series (220-243-160).

“I think the team felt pretty confident going into the tournament,”said Schaberg. “We knew it was going to be a tougher pattern and we had a good idea of how we were going to attack the pattern for the dayI think that winning the tournament helped all of our confidence a ton. I think we all knew we were one hundred percent capable of winning a WHAC (tournament), but seeing it actually happen and happen so quickly I think is a giant confidence booster for the rest of the season.”
With their new confidence from their big WHAC conference win, the teams are looking forward to the rest of their season.
“We feel confident, ready to compete against the rest of the WHAC,” said junior Anthony DeLuccia IV. “It felt amazing [winning], knowing all the work we have done so far paid off. It felt great for coach Harold knowing it was his first collegiate win. It makes us hungry to win more.”
The Saints finish out 2025 with an action packed month. On Dec. 6, the team will play in the WHAC Michigan Open tournament in Sterling Heights before making the trip to Pennsylvania to compete in the Roto Grip Keystone Quaker Tournament on Dec. 19 and 20 and the Lehigh Valley Classic Tournament on Dec. 21 and 22, both in Allentown, Pa.
December brings many chances for the Saints to maintain the momentum that they worked hard to make and to continue the progress with the program.
“[The win] was a nice morale boost,” said senior Trey Richmond. “Winning always is. It is great especially to get the coaches their first win with the program and second in program history.”
