The change of the seasons in weather also marks the change of the seasons in Saints sports. After a jersey themed Saints Slam event for the 2025 year to kick off the season and introduce the rosters, both the Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams have started their seasons.

The women’s team started their season in Indiana, playing the Indiana Northwest Red Hawks. To start the season on a high note, the team found success and won their first contest 53-52. During the first half of the game, the Saints were able to take the lead and allow the Red Hawks only 12 points. Isabel Reemsnyder and Rhema Dozier led the Saints with a total of 30 points; 16 points scored in the game by Reemsnyder and 14 scored by Dozier.

“Our team culture has been big for us this season,”said senior Paige Guernsey. “We’re connected, we work hard for each other and we’re excited to carry that energy into conference play to win the WHAC.”

After finding success on the road to start the season, the team was faced with two even tougher games. The Saints headed to University Park, Ill. to play Governors State, where after a hard-fought contest, fell by a mere one point, with a final score of 57-58. Following the tough loss to Governors State, the team hosted their home opener game against the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats, another tough contest for the Saints. The team showed resilience, but ended up taking the loss to Wildcats 47-68.

The Men’s team started their season off at home, hosting Ohio Christian on Saturday, Nov. 1. After a hard fight, the team lost to Ohio Christian 70-84.

The tough loss to open their season did not stop the Saints. After persevering through a trying contest against Ohio Christian, the team would find success as they took on Wright State Lake, winning with a final score of 79-58. The big win for the Saints also came with great successes from members of the team individually; with Caden Pokorzynski accruing 16 rebounds, a season high.

“Things are starting to click for us as a team adjusting to the new assistant coaches and system, but we just have to keep the ball rolling,” said senior Cameron Moore. “Personally, I am looking forward to starting conference play next Wednesday.”

Coming off their big win against Wright State Lake, the team kept the momentum going. The following day, the team would take on Saint Xavier and take the win 97-93. Pokorczynski led the Saints in points, accumulating 29 points for the Saints as well as 13 rebounds and three blocks during the contest.

This is only the beginning for Saints Basketball for the 2025-2026 season. The Women’s and Men’s team are both back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 19 as they play WHAC opponent Cleary University in Howell, Mich. The Women’s team is slated to hit the court at 6:00 p.m. with the Men’s game following at 7:30 p.m.
