On Nov. 20, the Writing Center hosted its bi-annual Café y Conversaciones Fiesta in collaboration with LXSA.

Those who attended also played a few rounds of the traditional Mexican board game, La Lotería. The game is similar to Bingo but uses a deck of cards instead of numbered balls. Each player has a board with a selection of everyday images and when the card pulled matches the image on a player’s board they place a chip in that spot. The winner is the first player to shout “¡Lotería!” after marking all the images in their tabla or completing a pattern on it.

The purpose of the event is to celebrate Aquinas’s Spanish-speaking community with food, drinks and conversation.

“I think this is a really cool event to have on campus. I’m not a part of the writing center or LXSA but I’m very excited to be at this event,” said Ella Satterthwaite, a senior at Aquinas.
