Aquinas College has begun a new fall semester, welcoming new and returning students. As Freshman Orientation has concluded and classes begin, students commence the march forward in the collegiate journey.

Nunc coepi (“now, I begin/begin again”) is a latin phrase attributed to Venerable Fr. Bruno Lentari, emphasizing the importance of perseverance in the spiritual life in spite of failures and shortcomings. A realistic and humble approach to the spiritual life, it may also be applied in the realm of academic and personal endeavors. Many Aquinas students have expressed their hopes and aspirations for the coming semester, and the coming year as a whole.
“My goal for this year is to treat everyday as intentionally as possible,” senior Tomas Rampe said.
Oftentimes, various activities, assignments and obligations can begin to stack up, leaving many feeling overwhelmed. This can be avoided, however, if one resolves to be disciplined with how one manages time.
“[My goal] is to be on top of my assignments and projects,” junior Mitchell Chrapek said.
More to planning short term for the school year, many students are also beginning to look forward to their futures after Aquinas. This, however, necessitates staying rooted in the present moment in preparation.
“I want to excel in my academic standing, become a great musician and graduate from college with good grades,” senior Logan License said.

Aquinas College is a distinctively Liberal Arts college, focusing on the development of the entirety of the human person. This can include efforts with respect to the humanities, the sciences, athletics, music, etc. For one to excel in anything, this requires willingness and humility, which begins with one’s willingness to act in discipline regardless of failure.
