Aquinas College celebrated the Mass of the Holy Spirit at 12:15 p.m., Aug. 26 at Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Chapel.

Aquinas College is a liberal arts institution rooted in the Dominican tradition. Particularly, the Aquinas Institution is rooted in the four pillars of prayer, study service and community. The Mass of the Holy Spirit marks the beginning of a new academic year, as well as a renewed emphasis on the pillar of prayer in the life of Aquinas Saints.
“The Mass of the Holy Spirit is a very important Mass to start the year,” Liturgical Coordinator Joel Warren said. “It really shows off how strong this Aquinas’ faith community is.”
Fr. Rober Keller, O.P. was the celebrant. The Mass began with a procession of many faculty members of the Aquinas College community, including the President of the College, Sr. Maureen Gary, as well as the Provost of the College, Dr. Terry Keller. Some of the other faculty members included many of the professors. They donned their academic dress for the occasion.
Dr. Kelly Ford–The Director of Choral Activities–and the Aquinas College Chorus were present, providing the clergy and laity present with the entrance hymn, Psalm 104, the communion hymn and recessional hymn.
The Mass of the Holy Spirit reminds the Catholic faithful of the meaning of true wisdom in life, that is, Wisdom Incarnate.

The name of the Aquinas College Chapel, Our Lady Seat of Wisdom, emphasizes devotion to Mary, the greatest “lover of wisdom.” Indeed, Wisdom Incarnate is Christ the Lord, the Holy Eucharist.
While it is necessary to seek wisdom with the intellect, it is most necessary to welcome wisdom into the heart. This begins with Fear of the Lord, as the Book of Proverbs mentions. Indeed, the Fear of the Lord is a gift of the Holy Spirit, thereby necessitating guidance from Him, he who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
“[This] Mass is one of the first big events on our calendar,” Warren said. “Being able to see our community come together for the first time each year is really something special.”
