Fall has arrived with a flurry of festive colors. As the trees rain their vibrant auburns, yellows and reds, students have traded their summer sandals for more cozy coverings.
TheSaint set out to see what students think of different Fall themed activities, movies, foods and more in a little segment we are calling: “This or that: fall edition.”
Pumpkin Pie or Apple Pie?
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, autumnal flavors are on many students’ minds, I am sure, so which of these delicious desserts would win in a téte à téte? The students of Aquinas have answered, and apple pie wins with a score of 60% in the public poll.
“I picked pumpkin pie because it’s more nostalgic for me,” freshman Sophia Villa said. “I always loved it when I was little.”
Boots or Sneakers?
Fall fashion, beloved by those who like to layer, is also known for its classic array of footwear. From Doc Martin boots, to Birkenstocks and socks, to the comfort of a well-used pair of converse— there are options for a variety of personal styles. The results are tight, but sneakers win with a score of 55% in the public poll.
Picking Apples or Carving a Pumpkin?
Fall has many fun activities to engage in, some spooky, some wholesome. These two options are ones that bring many families and friends together every year. Two tasteful traditions, but only one can win. That winner is Carving a Pumpkin with a score of 60% in the public poll.

Beetlejuice or It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown?
Both of these movies are fall classics. While Beetlejuice leans into a more chaotic side of Halloween, the Charlie Brown special focuses on the warmth of the holiday with a childlike wonder. Which one are AQ students returning to again and again? Well, It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is a clear winner with a score of 71% in the public poll.
“I’ve never seen Beetlejuice,” junior Kariesue Taghon said. “I’ve also never really liked scary movies, so I tend to like something cozy like a Charlie Brown special.”
Scary Costume or Cute Costume?
Costumes are perhaps the most talked about subject leading up to Halloween. Avid Halloween-goers may spend up to months planning the perfect ensemble, while others may just gather what they can from their everyday wardrobe. Either way, there is always a side to choose: scary or cute? The verdict is in, and 62% of AQ students prefer a cute costume according to the public poll.
As Fall Fest continues on campus and students engage in festivities on and off campus, it is certain that each student celebrates the season in their own way. Whether that be by spooking people with a scary costume or watching a wholesome movie with friends is completely up to a choice of “this or that.”
