Volleyball, a game of bumping, setting, and spiking…but it’s not quite that simple. The collegiate athletes put a lot of work into preparing for each and every match. Hours are spent at the gym, practicing the little pieces to make each play perfect, and then even more hours are spent in the weight room, getting in the best shape they can. These ladies have dedicated much of their time to this sport, but to them, it is all worth it.

After a strong 2014 season, with 24 wins and only 11 losses, the Aquinas Women’s Volleyball team is ready to dominate once again. The team has been preparing throughout August for the start of their season. They spend many hours preparing for their season, with the most important games being against the teams in the WHAC. Some of their toughest opponents include Lawrence Tech, Davenport, and Madonna, three teams the Saints fell victim to last season.

The Saints will also play a few matches outside of their conference in which they will be able to see different teams with different techniques. This will not only give the Saints a chance to practice their own skills, but will also prepare them for anything they might face. The season will start at the end of August and will run until the WHAC tournament in mid-November.

To the few seniors, this season means a lot, and they are anxious to close out their collegiate career with an outstanding season. These seniors have helped build the volleyball program at Aquinas and have certainly helped leave a legacy. But the season is no less important to the freshman, sophomores, and juniors who work just as hard for the success of the team. It is clear that the entire season will be filled with learning and growing in the sport.

All of the ladies are ready for another strong, successful season, with even more wins in mind than last year. These wins should come easily to this well-built, dedicated team. To see the ladies in action, come to a home game at Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center. Their schedule is available here.
