The Aquinas College men’s and women’s basketball teams are wrapping up the first half of their seasons. With both coming off of road losses to the University of Northwestern Ohio this past weekend, both teams hold a record of 7-8.

The men’s team, as noted above, is 7-8 with a conference record of 4-4. They have kept scored relatively close this year, even against opponents such as Davenport University and Cornerstone University, two schools that sit in the NAIA top ten. The team is averaging just under 80 points a game, and has limited opponents to an average of 73 points.

The Saints have had multiple contributors to their successes this season. Leading the way in scoring is Jeremy Williamson, a junior transfer from Kalamazoo Community College. Williamson is averaging 16.5 points  as well as 4.3 rebounds a game. Right behind him is senior Jake Bullock, putting up 16 points and just under three assists a game. Underneath the basket are juniors Arsenio Arrington and Opiyemi Sholesi, averaging a respective five and 4.5 rebounds a game themselves.

The Lady Saints hold a conference record of two wins and six losses. Although their record does not show it, they have kept games competitive all season. The Saints are averaging 64.5 points a game, while holding off opponents to 57.3 a game.

Sophomore Hannah Brefeld currently paces the team in scoring, averaging 13.6 points and 6.8 rebounds a game. Behind her is junior McKenzie Breimayer at 10.5 points and 5.4 rebounds. Sophomore Bri Spica has also chipped in 10.4 points a game as well. Sophomore Ashley Bunker has also contributed with 8.1 points and 4.5 rebounds a game.

Although most students and student-athletes will take the next three weeks to rest, both squads will continue to compete. Both teams will play on December 28, with the women playing Alma College and the men facing Grace Bible College. Both teams will travel to Siena Heights on Jan. 4, and then host Concordia on Jan.  7. Make sure to follow both teams over break and for the rest of the season.
