Aquinas Women’s Volleyball Team’s Hot Streak Continues

The Aquinas Women’s Volleyball team came out victorious in their home matches against UNOH and Indiana Tech. this past weekend.

With these wins the Lady Saints are 10-2 in WHAC play.  This places them right behind Lourdes who currently stands at 11-1.  The Saints have had a good season so far currently holding an overall record of 19-5.

Friday’s game consisted of a hard-fought five-set match of alternating wins between Aquinas and UNOH.  The Saints won the first set with a score of 25-11.  The second set was a much more even battle and resulted in Aquinas losing it, 24-26.  The Saints responded in the third set with a well-earned win of 25-13.  In the fourth set UNOH took their second win with a score of 28-26, tying the match at 2-2 leading into the fifth set.

This final set began with UNOH staying only a point or two behind Aquinas for a good portion of the time.  The Saints eventually pulled away and won the match 15-9 with a final kill by Payton Klein.

While this match took tremendous team effort, Senior Kristin Danielson stood out.  She led the team in kills with a total of 30; half of the team’s total throughout the match.  Payton Klein and Kylie Christensen contributed with 9 kills each as well.

Saturday’s game started with Aquinas’s new drumline making their first appearance inside the gym and ended with the Lady Saints sweeping Indiana Tech. in a three-set match. In the first set Indian Tech. had some impressive digs, but the Saints kept the pressure on and won 25-12.

Tech. had some good runs in the second set, keeping the score close and making it a thrilling set to watch. A net violation tied the teams up at 24-24.  After a kill by Kristin Danielson and an attack error from Tech, the Saints prevailed 26-24 with a 2-0 lead in the match.  The third set was won by Aquinas with a score of 25-16 after Freshman Meredith Kraus got a kill for the match point.

Aquinas Women’s Volleyball’s next game will take place at 7 p.m. on October 10 at Cornerstone University.  The Saints will also have two home games on October 12.  The first game is at 5 p.m. against Carroll College and the second is at 8 p.m. against Indiana University-South Bend.
