Aquinas played a double header against Lawrence Technological University on Wednesday, April 10th. They came out victorious in the first game, but were unable to secure a win in the second encounter.
The first game saw a strong defense by the Saints. Pitcher Marisa Loya had a stand-out performance, striking out four batters and only allowing nine hits by Lawrence Tech. From this, the Blue Devils were only able to secure one run, to Aquinas’ three. There were two players who greatly contributed to Aquinas’ runs on the offensive side. Briana Mairose was two for three, with a double and a run scored. Brooke Wila was also very successful at the plate with a two run homer in the fifth inning that gave the Saints a two run lead.
Aquinas was not as successful in the second game. The game started with Mia Loya at the mound, and ended with Marisa Loya closing. The score was run up to 16-22, with the Saints taking a loss. The Saints competed at the plate, as five players had a multi-hit game. Leigha Morse had a three-run homer in the second inning. Aquinas was unable to take the W, as the defense was unable to stop Lawrence Tech.
