Sports Editor Lorenzo Serrato talks with Jenna Berens of the Aquinas Volleyball team.

Why volleyball at Aquinas?
During my junior year of high school I realized that I wanted to take my volleyball career to the next level. Aquinas gave me the best of both worlds, allowing me to stay close to home, and to continue to play the sport that I love.

Who has influenced you the most in your volleyball career?
Rick Schroeder was one of the biggest influences in my volleyball career. He was my club coach growing up and ended up being my coach freshman year of college. He always pushed me to do better and be the best version of myself both on and off the court.

Favorite part of the volleyball team?
I am most grateful for the friendships that I have created while being apart of the Aquinas Volleyball Team. They are the reason I look forward to every practice, game, and team bonding event. I know that these friendships will last a lifetime and that’s the reason why they are my favorite part of being on this team.

Favorite memory so far?

My freshman year, the team performed extremely well and we were given the opportunity to compete at the National level for the first time in a long time. Even though we didn’t come home with the Championship trophy, it  was a positive unforgettable experience.

Favorite inspirational quote?
“It’s not about being better than someone else, it’s about being better than you were the day before.” This quote is something I try to focus on daily. I want to better myself in some aspect every single day and look for the places that I can improve on to make me be the best person that I can be on and off the court.
