Senior southpaw Travis Keys had it all working against Lawrence Tech, compiling 16 strikeouts in a double header split on Tuesday, April 13th. Keys led the Saints to a 5-0 win in game 1, pitching a complete game shutout to go along with the 16 strikeouts.
Former Aquinas pitchers Josh Drake and Kaleb Ort previously shared the Aquinas record with 13 strikeouts each. Key’s dominance on the mound almost notched him with a WHAC record, as he fell one strikeout short for the most in a single game. Key’s struck out the side in both the first and third innings, along with two successful pick off attempts.
Keys is now currently 4-1 on the year, and has been a dominant force for the Saints all season long.
“Going into the game I wanted to give our team a chance to win. We were coming off a tough stretch of games against the top teams in the league. Once I got into the game it was just about executing pitches. Dane and me were on the same page about our game-plan to attack the hitters”.
“The key for me was using my change up. I had been struggling with it at the beginning of the season but was working hard to make it better…it was nice to see it finally working how it needed to.”
