Every year throughout the world, Christians celebrate the Octave of Easter, remembering Christ’s Resurrection from the dead.

On the evening of Holy Saturday, the Easter Vigil Mass is celebrated. The Mass begins with the procession of the Paschal Candle and the Exsultet, proclaiming Christ’s payment of Adam’s debt through his suffering, death and Resurrection. On this evening, catechumens are brought into full Communion with the Catholic Church.

Every year on this night, converts are baptized, welcomed in reception of the Eucharist and confirmed. Prior to the Confirmations and Baptisms, the Litany of the Saints is chanted, invoking the Saints of the Ages to be present for the occasion.

Following the Vigil Mass, the Easter season officially begins. The next morning is Easter Sunday, where Christians remember the appearance of Jesus Resurrected at the tomb.

“It is a blessing to have Easter, he is risen!,” Maximillian Glanzer said.

Following Easter Sunday, the Octave of Easter lasts for eight days, and the official Easter season lasts until the celebration of Pentecost fifty days later. The Easter Season sees the liturgical color of white being used, symbolizing Resurrection and life.
