On Monday Oct. 19, TRIO Student Support Services hosted Popcorn with Pancho during Fall Fest.
Popcorn with Pancho is an event centered around Pancho and his office hours, where students get to enjoy his presence in the TRIO space. Pancho is the beloved unofficial mascot of TRIO SSS and son of Yesenia Bernal-Alcala, the TRIO SSS Experimental Learning Coordinator, Program Advisor and Pancho’s mother.
Pancho, and his event, brings the Aquinas community together while playing games, doing crafts and taking photos with Pancho. Having this event also brings benefits for visitors who stop by.
“Many students leave their families, homes and beloved pets behind when they begin their college journey,” said Bernal-Alcala. “Pancho brings a little reminder of home and offers students a moment of comfort, connection and love. He gives us an opportunity to connect with students on a more personal level, build relationships and create a welcoming environment.”

Pancho also encourages students to come in and visit the TRIO space, even if it is just to see him.
“I love Pancho,” said freshman Cecilia Sanchez. “I make sure to visit him every time he is here. He always makes my days better and I appreciate that he has office hours so I can plan ahead and know when he is here.”

Pancho’s Office Hours, along with Popcorn with Pancho, are posted on TRIO’s Instagram page and printed on flyers around the TRIO space. Stop by and see when Pancho is in.
